Story Identification - 2 Books
A man wakes up in the hospital, family in the room, with new and super-normal ability. He uses this to create peace and advance mankind. Takes place in the U.S. and of course there's great resistance from the government.
A 2nd book takes place in the U.S. northwest (Washington or Oregon). Young people find a portal to another place / time and begin creating a base there. Eventually they bring across parts for a small plane. As I remember, there are no people on the other side and it was a version of their current location but pristine.
Thanks for any help with my deplorable memory.
