Did the bad guys win in Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi?
Unlike a bunch of the other people on the internet that got angry at The Last Jedi for handling certain characters poorly and throwing out interesting storyline and still others calling out "SJW" on it, I only got sad at The Last Jedi, not angry at it. Why? Because I thought the bad guys won and the Rebels lost a lot, and we in the real world lost a lot. Here's a list of things the Rebels lost and we have lost by December 14, 2017, after the midnight show of The Last Jedi:
- Luke Skywalker
- Snoke
- Admiral Ackbar
- That Holdo character
- Captain Phasma
- All the Rebels' defenses
- All the Rebels' bases
- Luke's lightsaber
- Many rebel soldiers
- General Leia Organa (at least that's what I thought until the next film confirmed they will use unseen footage of Carrie Fisher.)
- Carrie Fisher
- Debbie Reynolds
- Mickey Rooney
- 20th Century Fox (at least that's what I thought until I discovered that both Disney and Fox will be owned by a holding company called "New Disney").
Okay, now I'm just only mentioning classic film stars and film studios by this point, but I thought Disney made me sad just because of all the things we lost in Star Wars and in film. The last one we really didn't lose, because 20th Century Fox is still making movies.
I thought the bad guys won in The Last Jedi because the Rebel's fuel ran out, and if their fuel can run out, then the Millennium Falcons' fuel will run out, then they'll be, to quote Tony Stark "adrift in space with zero promise of rescue" and they'll all die, unless by the grace of The Force, playing God in this universe, they'll be all saved. All that's left of the Rebels is what's on the Millennium Falcon, and some stable boy who can Force pull a broom to his hand. That's it.
I thought the bad guys won in The Last Jedi because we lost Carrie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds within a day of each other in 2016. Debbie Reynolds was Carrie Fisher's mother and one of the lead actors in what is considered the greatest movie musical ever, Singing in the Rain, voicing the title character in the 1973 animated classic Charlotte's Web, and doing a few more classic MGM shows during their golden years.
How does Mickey Rooney fit into all of this? I only knew him from voicing Santa Claus in several Rankin/Bass Christmas specials, and I didn't know until much later, after watching how they made The Wizard Of Oz, that he was a classic MGM star. I even saw him in Night at the Museum and Night at the Museum 3: Secret of the Tomb, his last role. Both Mickey Rooney and Debbie Reynolds came from MGM, and Carrie Fisher was born to Hollywood royalty, so losing them was like losing a significant part of Hollywood. To me, Carrie Fisher will always be Princess Leia.
Never mind Fox. They'll be alright.
As for you, I would like to know whether you think the bad guys won in The Last Jedi. The problem is I don't think like other people. That's why I thought differently than both the TLJ haters and the TLJ lovers.
