Could Sauron have controlled the One Ring if it were to have come in contact with the palantír of Orthanc?
There is something that I have always wondered about and that is if Sauron could have controlled his One Ring if it were to have come in contact with the palantír of Orthanc.
Say in an alternative story line of The Fellowship of the Ring, Gandalf decides to take Frodo with him to see Saruman. The One Ring is given to Saruman who then immediately walks over and places it on top of the palantir. Sauron then appears in the palantir and sees his One Ring.
At this point, would Sauron be able to control his ring and use its power to kill Saruman, Gandalf, and Frodo?
