Searching for a short story scifi/horror of kid teleported to space to die
i've never used this site before. I'm more into horror than scifi but i thought i'd check here. I read lots of anthologies and i looked through all my books but could not find this one, i believe it was in a horror anthology but had scifi elements.
From what I can remember this seemed to be vaguely dystopian society because I think this kid was riding a bike and either bikes were rare or not allowed? or maybe he was stealing it? Some how he ends up at a shop that an old couple were running. I cant remember if he worked with them for a while or not. But I think they are trying to steal his bike from him. They then trick him to get inside some sort of machine. the kid doesn't feel well and the machine sends him to a room filled with skeletons and (this part i cant remember for sure) he realizes he cant breath. so he crawls over to a window and looks out it; its revealed he's looking at earth. I think it cuts back to the old couple having a pile of bicycles and maybe skate boards too. This seemed like an older story because I think there were some small black ink illustrations in section breaks. Let me know if you've heard this story or can point me in the right direction.
